Land clearing heralds another RV park

The 3001 Interstate 45, located at the clearing on the frontage road next to and north of Dienst Distributing is for a sizable RV park. Could La Marque soon hold the title of RV capital of the county?

The developer has not submitted official plans yet, which, caused the officials last week to fail to recall the developer’s name. The RV will about 140 recreational vehicles/motor homes on nine acres when materialized.

Late last year, Ron Hoover RV & Marine Centers acquired 80 acres along I-45 South in La Marque with plans to build a dealership.

The area covers 20-acre Oasis Resort and RV Park at 1903 I-45 45 S and it has been bought by Ron Hooever, also the owner of five other stores in Southeast Texas. Robert Greig is the real estate investor for the area.

The Lakeview Country Club and its 18-hole golf course, 1219 Palm St. in La Marque also is under big plans soon. It was purchased by Greig last year, but soon closed it because it wasn’t a potential source for profit. Also, last year, the same property was under contract to a developer and yet, it still did not pushed through.

There will also be revamping activities at the island’s shuttered Tony’s Lazy Lounge in the coming weeks for a Roadhouse Barbecue. The brainchild of Gary Cagle and Tommy Napuli, Roadhouse Barbecue will have a modern biker theme. The reason behind the idea is that the inspiration came from the wildly popular Lone Star Rally.

Meanwhile, hotel and condominium building boom on the island is doing good. Partners Cagle and Brad Ender plan to buy four lots next to the Roadhouse Barbecue from landowners Victor and Kelly Escamilla to build the future site of Hurricane Electric.

Hurricane Electric started 15 years ago in wiring custom homes and the West End and today, it operates 10 trucks and employs 15 people. The recent project by Cagle include Hampton Inn, 6431 City Central Blvd., which opened in May, and Springhill Suites, 6303 Broadway, which opened in February.

Restaurateur Jack Wernli will have its Jack’s Garage Cafe & Pub, FM 518 and Perkins Avenue in League City opened. The restaurant is the only restaurant in Texas to show memorabilia and themes relating to motor sports, including drag racing and NASCAR, along with classic cars. Meals will be home-style, including steaks.

If all goes well for Jack, including the patio dining, he could duplicate the concept as well.
