City seems drunk on real estate deal

A plan to spend $450,000 in sales-tax revenue for Captain Okie’s Liquor Store is on the move. The city plans to spend for Captain Okie’s Liquor Store at 1002 FM 2094. A boat shop is also in the list which has been agreed in the amount of $350,000.

The former mayos and council woman Katherine McIntyre, disagrees. She questions the by the Clear Lake Shores City Council to buy some local businesses. She also thinks that the city should be in the real-estate development business. Zoning properties isn’t good at all since it does not invest in properties and controls much.

The city government’s decision to push through with the plan isn’t such a good idea according to McIntyre since a whole is being dug by the officials but there is not real back up plan what happens next.

Since most cities are able to control development, Clear Lake Shores’ leaders should explain why they can’t.  Objectives are also needed to be shown that the liqour store is valued $64,000 and $450,000 worth by the central appraisal district.

Until December, the city will lease the liquor store as agreed. When its contract expires, it will be returned to the owner.

The city will need to assume legal liability as well during the time it is operating as a liquor store.
